Stain Removal Tips: Clean Blenders, Get Butter Out and More!

Molly Maid is a professional maid service company with more than 26 years of experience. Our first golden rule of stain removal is to deal with the stain right away! In fact, the more quickly you deal with it, the more likely you are to be successful. At the same time, when it comes to tackling stains, water should always be the first cleaner you try. Simply flush the area or material with cool water, mopping up as you go. If water doesn’t work, try the following tricks to common cleaning challenges around the house. Most of the cleaning products suggested here are already in your kitchen.

Blenders and Food Processors
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for everyday cleaning. For stubborn residue, put 2 teaspoons (10mL) of baking soda and ½ cup (125 mL) of vinegar into the bowl, put the lid on and turn on the machine for 20 seconds. Finish with a quick rinse.

Butter
On upholstery, carpet or non-washable fabric, scrape as much butter off as you can, then place absorbent or brown paper on the mark and press with a warm iron. Be careful so you don’t damage the fabric.

Chewing Gum
If you find old chewing gum stuck to the carpet or couch, freeze with ice then chip and scrape away the pieces.

Floor Mats and Rugs
Vacuum regularly. Move the mat and vacuum underneath as well, if possible. For spills, apply a little soda water as soon as you can and let dry.

Microwave Ovens
To remove food splatters in a microwave oven, soften them first by filling a cup with water and microwaving it on high for one minute. The mess will wipe off.
